The Design philosophy of Stadium Roof mounted turbines and its link to the story
The rapid growth of large-scale wind farm installations has now led to the generation of clean electricity for tens of millions of homes around the world. However, despite the potential to reduce the losses and costs associated with transmission and to use local wind acceleration techniques to improve energy yields, the potential for urban wind energy has yet to be realised.
Something that is central to my idea is the Coanda Effect, which is named after another genius, the Romanian scientist and pioneer Henri Coanda. This relates to the behaviour of gases and fluids and is the mechanism by which a stream of air sort of sticks itself to a flat roof as it passes over it.
Factors which are as equally or more so important than the actual engineering of a given turbine for an urban wind turbine project are; Wind science, positioning of turbine, type of turbine used for specific positioning, type of building and its energy use, and a building’s shape of roof.

An Innovative Hydropower plant would not only create renewable energy from water, but also help curb rising flood water levels by creating a large scale flood defense and help local regional Sustainable Urban Drainage systems as well as create reservoirs for supply of water during future droughts around the country.
By better integrating stadiums into the larger urban context, and by safely and sustainably offering a greater array of diverse and hi-tech offerings, stadiums can contribute more to cities and use their expensive real estate more efficiently.

Why a Stadium roof? Well, it is invariably the tallest roof with the largest surface area within an urban landscape relating to the principle that the higher the roof mounted turbine array is installed on a roof, the greater the potential to increase a higher wind yield from higher wind speeds being achieved at a higher height. Also apart from its usual architectural design conforming to a slightly inclined dome like shape which creates a coanda effect for wind blowing across it, giving a constant undisturbed wind yield from the turbines revolving installed on it, it is also less costly conceptually as there is no or little distribution cost being close to the end user.

At the start of my career in construction whilst working on the redevelopment of the Gravesend Canal Basin as part of the Thames Gateway project in the UK in 2005, it was discovered that one of the locks was rediscovered under a disused car park.
