Mind-blowing!
What a roller coaster ride, jam-packed with different elements and subject matters like time travelling, artificial intelligence, cyborgs, arts, history and religion!

The year is 2112 and the earth is no longer sustainable for life. The United Nations Authority came to know if Dr. Ben Richards had not been assassinated in 2017, the world would not be dying today. They sent a shapeshifter cyborg, Merisi, to protect and help Dr Ben Richards to bring his plan of building wind harnessing power generation system to fruition. Dr. Ben’s project threatens the monopoly of GIATCOM, a nuclear power generation corporation so they sent Shui Feng, an AI android, from the future to counter Dr. Richard’s plan. Dr. Richard is accompanied by a gorgeous reporter, Grazia Rossini, who is not only intrigued by his research but also concerned for his safety. She added a nice romantic touch with an air of mystery to the story but my favourite character is Merisi and I would like to call him the guardian angel of Dr. Ben Richards.

This book gave me Terminator 2 vibes and I could vividly picture Arnold Schwarzenegger and Robert Patrick playing the roles of Merisi and Shui Feng, respectively.
The author did a brilliant job in flawlessly combining the aspects of science, history and religion to create this unputdownable sci-fi thriller. Thank you author for the powerful doze of infotainment. I not only enjoyed reading this book but also learned some new information that has piqued my interest like renewable sources of energy and SATOR Square.

Really impressive debut novel from Mark Dowson and I look forward to Part 2.

It’s well researched (very topical) and well paced/plotted. I would put it in the same genre and league as Michael Crichton, Iain M Banks, Dan Brown et al.

I like Merisi and Grazia and would be interested in seeing more of them. Ben is a little passive / airy in places and I think it works better if he’s considered ‘one of’ the main characters rather than ‘the’ main character, but as much as I love character driven, this is really a plot driven novel so it doesn’t matter hugely.

Grazia is rather mysterious at this point and for me would be a major motivation to read Part 2 – to find out if she is from the future or is genuinely from our time, and if she has any hidden agenda etc. plus what she is capable of. She creates a nice foil for the more vague professor-like Ben Richards in her energy and proactivity.

While reading it I couldn’t help but feel it would work extremely well in a more visual format – I think it would make a superb TV series. Here’s hoping Prime or Netflix pick it up.

I signed up for this book because it instantly captured my attention through the book cover. It gives off such nostalgic 2020 vibes when we all were facing covid and fighting for our lives. It was a tough phase indeed but glad we made it through.

The story is something unique and has really informative aspects about climate, environment, time travel, wind energy and the future. It gave me chills to read about the time travel especially the fact that it might become a possibility in the future.

It’s sad to see humans destroying the planet just because they are selfish and only care about themselves. I’m glad Mark Dowson wrote this book to capture our attention and make us realise that we all are headed towards destruction.

Recognition: Oxygen Debt is very much hard science fiction, meaning it focuses on the science behind what is going on in the story. Bac in the Golden Age of Science Fiction hard science fiction was used to promote scientific advancements. It is my understanding this focus on science is what turns a lot of people off of science fiction. It takes too much brain power. In the case of Dowson’s book the science behind the science fiction explains what happened to the earth and the repercussions. It is to serve as a warning as what could happen if we continue down the path we are. Recognition is enjoyable, timely, and it’s message should be seriously contemplated.

A perfect example of thrill, knowledge, ideas and wisdom. I’m amazed after writing such a masterpiece Mark still haven’t gotten this series made into a movie or tv show! The character Dr. Richards has given a very innovative and well researched idea that is obviously author’s idea of using wind energy for power generation. But I don’t understand why this book isn’t getting the recognition and hype it deserves.. All the characters are well developed and the story is to the point: not too long or short, just the perfect amount. I highly recommend it and would like everyone in my friends group to read and enjoy it!!

A very diverse and authentic storyline by Mark Dowson with a very serious and important cause. He has given the initial idea through Ben Richards to use wind energy instead of nuclear energy. This concept is so unique and important. There are so many sci-fi thrillers out there and this one is so far the best one! The plot, character development and scene building is outstanding. Absolutely love the concept and idea behind this book. It ends on a cliffhanger so I encourage you read the whole trilogy to find out more to this series.

So glad I signed up for this book tour. It was great reading this amazing book. It has details and interesting information that is easily understandable. I loved the connection between Dr. Richard and Grazia and I hope they develop that chemistry in the upcoming series. I’m also excited to read more about Feng and Merisi, both are so amazingly developed. I know Feng’s the bad guy but just focus on his character development, it’s just mind blowing!! I’m so impressed and looking forward to the next instalment

It is a informative book. In this book the author is taking about the modern technologies and it’s effects in climate change. By the year 2112 the earth will face the problem of oil deficiency, oxygen deficiency etc. To face this problem we have to find more recyclable energy sources. With this book the author is trying to spread awareness about this. It is very important to read for saving future generations.

I’ll start my review by saying that Dr. Richards is hands down the best character of this book. He has undoubtedly played a great part in the development and progression of the story. The idea proposed by Mark about the wind energy is amazing as I’ve never heard anyone talk about it before. Plus as the name of the book says ‘Recognition’ I think this book needs more recognition and acknowledgment. Maybe turned into a good tv show or a movie. It’s gonna make an amazing SciFi movie thou.

Excellence storyline, interesting plot, unexpected twists and well developed characters. This is all you need in a good book and trust me it’s one of the finest books I’ve read in terms of SciFi thrillers, dystopian and environmental issues. It has all the good things in it and I was so invested in reading that I didn’t even realise that I’ve reached the end already. It’s the perfect start to a series and I’m looking forward to reading the next amazing parts as well 🙂

Brilliantly written and excellently executed piece of art. The satore square is just mind blowing and impressive! That part captured most of my interest. The time travel concept was also great as it has a realistic approach not like the typical time travel movies that seem so unreal. I enjoyed this instalment a lot and I’m looking forward to read the next parts.

This first part in the series is a combination of both real scientific elements as well as science fiction. I’d put the genre in thriller as well because Dowson’s method of penning down this time travel story in a suspenseful manner was worth reading.

What an epic and exciting read it was!! I loved the storyline and the character building. This sci fi is way better than the typical sci fi series we read. This has a real purpose and meaning. It’s understandable and interesting at the same time. Lovely!
Excited to move on to the next part 🤩

This is officially my new favourite Sci Fi series. Not only is this series entertaining but thought provoking as well. It was scary to read that what our humanly greed to digitalize the world can lead to.

This book was brilliantly paced, I loved how Dowson has incorporated the concept of time travel in this one and the plot was absolutely genius. Author has done a brilliant a job of setting up the futuristic world along with managing a world of 2017. The characters were developed very intelligently especially the character of Feng & Merisi. The ending was bone chilling with an amazing cliff hanger. This book consisted thought provoking content & factual details which was bone chilling to read considering the predicament we are currently facing. This book was action packed with lots of suspense.

Recognition Oxygen Debt is the first book of the recognition trilogy. And oh my god, I don’t know where to start. This book turned out better than I expected. The story is progressive and the curiosity will keep you on your toes. Earth is no longer capable of sustaining life, and the advanced and developmental technologies are no longer capable of providing humans with a better life. The author portrays a world deprived of nature and natural resources. Dr. Richards is innocent, generous and winsome; he doesn’t care about gaining wealth or recognition, rather he just wants to make this world a better place to reside/live. The storyline is so interesting and the book will keep you hooked from start to finish. The writing is intelligible; it can be read and understood easily. I finished this book in just two sittings. If you’re fond of or interested in science, then this is the perfect read for you.
